Getty Stock Surges 19% on Perplexity AI Licensing Deal
Getty Images shares jumped 19% following the announcement of a multi-year licensing agreement with AI search startup Perplexity. The deal grants Perplexity access to Getty's creative and editorial content for integration into its AI-powered search products, though financial terms remain undisclosed.
The partnership signals a rare alignment between traditional media archives and emerging AI platforms. Perplexity will now display Getty-sourced images with proper attribution and source links, addressing industry concerns about uncredited content scraping by AI systems.
"This supports AI platforms in delivering higher quality, more accurate information to consumers," said Nick Unsworth, Getty's VP of Strategic Development. Perplexity's Head of Content Partnerships Jessica Chan emphasized the shared commitment to creator attribution as fundamental to AI-powered discovery.
